Substitute Teachers

Garden Gate at Featherstone

The mission of Garden Gate Child Development Center is to fully support the development of each child, to hold up each child in order that they learn to love and value themselves, to stand up for what’s right and fair, and to be a source of good in the world, to ensure their successes as both students and citizens of our community.

Our classrooms are designed as studio spaces where children are free to explore, create and extend learning through a variety of creative materials. At Garden Gate, we believe children come into this learning space filled with theories to test, ideas that they would like to investigate and stories they would like to share. Having spacious and light filled studio workspaces enables children to select the materials they need to express themselves in a multitude of creative languages. Their creations - and their creative process - allow children to connect with each other as they explore the projects and concepts that are important to them, both as individuals and in small groups. Teachers facilitate this work by carefully observing children and listening to their thoughts and perspectives, and then inviting them to more deeply explore ideas while encouraging them to make meaningful connections with the materials and with each other.

Our large, expansive outdoor classroom plays a large part in the learning and exploring at Garden Gate. Connecting with nature plays a significant role in the health and development of children. In the outdoor classroom children have an opportunity to investigate natural life, collaborate with friends on large scale projects and challenges and create work that reflects their understanding of ideas. Outdoors, children have the space and freedom to work together or to find a quiet place to daydream and contemplate the world. The Lead Teacher has the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of all the children in their classroom.

  • Substitute Teachers will assist in supporting the mission and educational approach of the Center, providing a nurturing, consistent, developmentally appropriate environment that meets the emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs of young children.

  •  Substitute Teachers must abide by all EEC licensing standards, and all policies and procedures set forth in the employee handbook.

Our educational approach draws from the preschools and infant/toddler centers in Reggio Emilia, Italy. We provide a place where the arts are central to building community, sharing ideas and growing together in a vibrant, creative setting. Being on the campus of Featherstone Center for the Arts provides unique opportunities for our children to explore the intersection of nature and art. One of the greatest opportunities we have at Featherstone is to encounter the artists themselves, and to build relationships that support the children’s learning and development.

It is the policy of the Garden Gate Child Development Center, Inc. to ensure that the employment practices of Garden Gate Child Development Center, Inc. are to recruit, hire and promote qualified employees without unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, disability, veteran’s status, sexual orientation or any other legally protected status.
